My coworker, Dave Shampine, covered a stabbing Wednesday that caused a soldier to be charged with manslaughter.

On Friday, we both shared a front page with follow ups. His told the victim’s family’s story and mine was about the soldier’s military history.

The main story on the page was an educational piece about the tricky business of home inspections.

On Saturday, I covered a tragic breaking-news story about a head-on collision that killed an 8-year-old and her great-grandma.

Vice President Joe Biden visited 2nd Brigade on Wednesday.  The brigade just wrapped up training Iraqi troops. Remarkably, they are not being replaced by other American troops, but by Iraqis themselves.

In addition to the WDT piece, I wrote one for the Associated Press.

I wrote an in-depth story on a local housing crisis that will likely get worse as more soldiers come back from Iraq.

I now work in upstate New York, at the Watertown Daily Times,  covering Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division.  You can see my latest stories here.

June 4, 2010- Becoming Columbia University Student Athlete of the Month is quite an honor. It is also a feat Nicole Ross, a fencer and Upper West Side native, has earned twice in 2010.

In March, she became the National Collegiate Athletic Association fencing champion in the foil, her competition weapon. Last year, at the 2009 Junior World Fencing Championships in Belfast, Ross helped the United States team’s first world win in her event, women’s foil fencing. “It was super exciting and gratifying for me,” said Ross, who will be fencing at the New York World Cup of Fencing June 18-20.

Ross graduated from Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School on West 93rd Street.

Since November, I had interned at Lens, the photojournalism blog of The New York Times. I just finished this week.  It was a web production internship where I did audio (here and here) and a lot of crowdsourcing.  I was part of the team that did “A Moment in Time,” a crowdsourcing event that had more than 12,000 participants worldwide.
